Preserving Heritage Across Borders
The Dunvegan Foundation supports heritage projects on both sides of the Atlantic, preserving historic sites, cultural traditions, and educational initiatives that reflect the history and migration of Clan MacLeod.
Honoring Dame Flora's Legacy
In 1976, following the death of Dame Flora MacLeod of MacLeod, the Foundation helped restore the Village Hall at Dunvegan in her memory. Since then, it has funded the erection of historic markers on the Isle of Skye, donated an organ to Duirinish Parish Church, supported the restoration of historic gravesites, and established a substantial endowment for the Iona Community, all honoring Dame Flora's legacy.
International Heritage Partnerships
Other member societies of the Associated Clan MacLeod Societies (ACMS) have established organizations with similar missions. The Clan MacLeod Heritage Trust, a Scottish charity founded by the ACMS, serves as a funding partner for charitable projects throughout the United Kingdom.
Supporting Charitable Initiatives
The Foundation has received IRS approval to make these transfers, ensuring all donations are directed to qualified charitable causes under strict oversight. Similar organizations include the Clan MacLeod Foundation of Canada and New Zealand's Dame Flora Scholarship Fund, each operating under their respective national tax regulations while supporting the same shared mission.
Duirinish Parish Church Music Fund
Located in the village of Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, Duirinish Parish Church represents the Foundation's longest-running international initiative. Dame Flora MacLeod of MacLeod served as the church's organist for many years. In her memory, the Foundation donated a new organ and continues to support the church's music program.
Iona Community Dame Flora Scholarship
The Foundation sponsors a scholarship honoring Dame Flora MacLeod of MacLeod at the Iona Community, a religious organization that operates three residential centers on the Isle of Iona and Mull, Scotland.
Historic Assynt Organization Ardvreck Castle Preservation Project
The Historic Assynt Organization is dedicated to preserving historic sites throughout Assynt, Sutherland, an area with deep ties to Clan MacLeod. Its work includes preserving Ardvreck Castle, the former seat of the MacLeods of Assynt, and restoring the Old Parish Church at Inchnadamph, which includes the nearby MacLeod burial vault. In 2003, the Dunvegan Foundation awarded a grant to Historic Assynt in memory of Colonel Bill MacLeod.
Foundation Trustees
The Foundation is governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees appointed by the Council of the Clan MacLeod Society, USA. Trustees serve six-year terms in rotating classes of three and are appointed during the Society's Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The Dunvegan Foundation preserves, protects, and promotes the unique heritage of the Scottish Highlands and Islands through projects that celebrate the history and migration of Clan MacLeod.

Clan MacLeod Society Migration Project
An ongoing effort of Clan MacLeod Societies throughout the world is to tell the story of the migration of the clan from northwester Scotland to the far corners of the world. Additional information is available on the Genealogy Page of this website.
Clan MacLeod Society Migration Project Book Collection:
The Foundation supports an extensive collection of books of the Clan MacLeod Scottish History and related subjects housed at the Taos PublicLibrary in Taos, NM. Many of the books in this library are difficult to find and are available through interlibrary loan. Additional Information is available at:
